Discussion

Dear readers and fellow classmates, as time is too short for me to create a complete website, I would like to thank you all for your kind understanding and please leave your comments here. Sorry for the inconvenience.

In addition, I would like you all to give some good ideas about what and how to do with the trend of new media. What will happen to the next generation if they are too dependent on the new media?

Please log in to your blogger which is at the top right hand corner of this page . I appreciate that. Thanks a lot.

  1. nice website and videos, but i think that as time goes by, newer technologies will come and serves as a great help to all, so we really ought to keep learning even as we grow older.

  2. Hallo Weixi! =P

Yes i agree that using the new media involves a degree of acceptance. Like you've mentioned, especially the older generation, they are unable to accept the simplicity, convenience and the sheer speed of obtaining information from the internet.

While we strive hard to learn new techniques in handling this new technology, the older generation are also putting in a lot of effort to grasp a simple concept: That pressing a key on the keyboard would result in many responses on the screen. They're also working hard to take in the technological progress with good faith.

On our part, we should also be more eager to lend a helping hand and aid the older generation in learning the ropes of the internet and new media. They have an enormous wealth of experiences and information to share and I absolutely believe that the internet community would benefit greatly from these pioneers of the world. Afterall, they were the ones who contributed greatly to what our world is now. Thus, while we bask in the glory of their achievements and strive hard to improve on their efforts, we should not neglect the seniors as well.

Technology advanced very rapidly and new media brought about a lot of benefits, but it also resulted in quite an amount misuses and abuses. This is what i will be touching on when i present my website. Do look forward to it ok?

Good job! No wonder you're the distinction/pro student! An apt name for you indeed! Hahaha =P

  6. A very cool page with a nice video.

I agree with you that new media has grown rapidly over the past decade. If I was born then(luckily not...woohoo), I would never have imagined that I could be talking or sending messages to friends from other countries for free and quickly. The rate of the growth of new media definitely stuns me. What do you think is the reason for the rapid growth of new media?

I agree with you that our elder parents find new media as a destructive tool for young people. Actually, I think they are just jealous that we are much more up to date compared to them. Haha. But on a serious note, I feel that if our elders knows what benefits the new media can bring about, they will surely want to give it a try.

  8. I had to admit that most of us had been hooked on the internet. For me if there is no internet, it is like lost touch to the whole world and to do a research is very tedious task.

  9. I have to say that without the internet, I would feel that I've been cut off from the rest of the world, and it really is going to be troublesome to connect with people, checking for new updates and stuff.

  11. Nice website with great video and music 5/5..

I think that in the next generation there won't be anymore pencil, eraser and books. All of the lesson will took place online.

With the use of new media now, nothing is totally impossible. You can directly get the latest news and updates all online.

  17. This website is really nice.
i think our parents worries are not unfounded.
I believe that all things should be done/ taken in moderation including the new media. I t can be destructive, there are lots of useful information but there are also things like pornography and online cheats.

  18. I’ve already commented but didn’t include my name. So I’ll post it again.

It's not becoming a part of my daily activities. It already is! The day I stop relying on the internet is probably the day the undersea cables are gone for good.

I don't think spending a long time using the internet should be a cause for worry. I believe the cause for concern would be when other commitments/responsibilities are neglected.

  19. Really nice website and video. They are so excellent. I don't think we should worry about spending a long time on the internet. People don't use internet to play game or listen musics. There are also a lot of knowledge can be learnt from the internet. We should not be bias to internet.

  20. You really have a nice website.
Over the years, the number of people who have the access to internet has been increasing tremendous and more and more people are dependent on it. I think that if people continue to dependent more on new media, more people will have health problems. Like for example siting position, people might get back pain and facing the computer for long hours strain one's eyes too.

  21. Gahahaha~ I enjoyed surfing through your website and playing your game. Happy new year to you too, Weixi :)

I have learnt alot about new media since joining this CDS and I'm glad I did. I've never known that there is so much to learn than just turning on your computer and logging on to the internet.

"Coming back to reality, shouldn't we start to worry about out future if we really spend a lot of time on this lovely and useful internet? Or should we discover only after 20 years that we are abandoned by the era, by the new generation of media, all because there will never be a definite boundary in IT and new media?"

I think we should worry about spending too much time on the internet. People are becoming too dependent on the internet and many people are living in the virtual world and leaving the real world behind. There is so much more to life that we can see on the internet, although it does open up alot of doors for us to connect to the world.

Me being me, I always like a little human touch to everything. Although I can connect to friends who might be miles away from where I am, the physical sense of getting in touch cannot be replaced. If I grow old and found out one day that I am completely left behind about the world of new media, I wouldn't mind at all if I'm healthy and living happily. There is just too much to life than a computer. Have you asked your grandparents about how they feel not being in touch with the new media now? Hehe...

Concerning the youths, we cannot prevent the future generation from attaching themselves to the new media as well. Just like how some people are addicted to the internet now, we cannot guarantee that this will not happen to our children. I guess it boils down to our own behaviour as human beings, whether we are disciplined enough to keep our lives in check and prioritise.

I think my comments are more on the human side of the effect of new media. Anyway, these are just my opinions :)
